GOD'S POWER IN MY LIFE
Dale Breeden
“Am I in the army?”, I asked the person standing by my bed.
“Yes” was the reply. It seems strange that one could be in the
army and not know it, doesn't it? Here's how it came about.
It is now history that on December 7, 1941, the United States
of America entered World War II. At that time married men with
children were not required to enter the armed forces. Therefore,
having a wife and daughter, I was deferred for awhile. But, as the
war continued the need for men become more acute and on March 2,
1944, I entered the infantry. On August 14, 1944, I landed in
England, and a little later was sent to France, where I joined the
95th Infantry Division of the 3rd Army, which was commanded by
General Patton.
November 28, 1944, we were engaged in battle near Falch,
France. This is all I know until about eight days later when I
regained consciousness in a hospital in England. I was blind;
my right arm did not function properly; my speech was impaired;
and my memory was completely gone! You see, a rifle bullet had
entered my head through the right eyebrow and had passed all the
way through my head.
Dear Friends, please be warned. I believed in Jesus when about
12 or 13 years old. But I had not used my eyes to study His pre-
cious Word; I had not used my hands in His work; my voice had not
been used as a witness for Him; and my mind had not been set to know
heavenly things (at the time of entering the army my I.Q. Was above
average). We cannot disobey God and get by!
Thank God. He has restored ¼ of my vision and the use of my
right hand. He has enabled me to study His Word and to be a witness
for Him. Although a part of the brain was shot away and 4 1/4” x
3 3/4” piece of skull in the back of my head has been replaced by a
plastic plate and despite the fact of almost constant pain I can do
all things through Christ, the power of God.
God's power in my life, the power that saved me from a sure
death, can only begin to depict His greater power in saving the
soul of man from eternal death. The power of God in extending my
life upon earth is no more than a faint shadow o His great power
to give man eternal life. This power is found in the Lord Jesus
Chris and is available to all men through the channel of faith in
a risen Saviour. The power of God can be manifested in my life
only as Christ is in me and I in Him.
Dear Friends, I have written this brief testimony with the
prayer that you may more fully realize “What is the exceeding
greatness of His power to us-ward who believe, according to the
working of His mighty power.” (Ephesians 1:19)
